Ṣuhayb ibn Sinān al-Rumi (English: Suhayb the Roman; Arabic: صُهَيْب ٱبْنِ سِنَان ٱلرُّومِيّ, Ṣuheyb er-Rûmî, born c. 592), dem sanso spell Sohaib, be an originally Arab former citizen insyd de Byzantine Empire wey grow up dey speak Greek, wey he go on to cam be an early companion of de Islamic prophet Muhammad den member of de early Muslim community.[1]

He grow up dey speak Greek, de language of de Byzantine Empire wey he practically forget Arabic. At de first opportunity, Suhayb escape wey he head for Mecca, wich be considered a place of asylum. Der, people call am ar-Rumi, wey dey mean "de Roman", secof ein background, wey dey include ein Roman accent den ein red pinkish skin. He cam be de representative of an aristocrat insyd Mecca, Abdullah ibn Judan at-Taymi, wey dey engage insyd trade wey he cam be quite wealthy.[3]

One day dem tell am say Muhammad dey call people to a new religion insyd de house of Al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam.[1] After meeting plus am, he be convinced of de truth of ein message wey he pledge fealty to Muhammad. Wen Muhammad give permission for ein followers to migrate to Medina insyd 622 to avoid faith-based persecution, Suhayb resolve to accompany Muhammad den Abu Bakr, buh de Quraish discover ein intentions[1] wey dem place guards over am to prevent am from leaving Mecca den take de wealth he acquire thru trade. After de departure of Muhammad den Abu Bakr, Suhayb continue to bide ein time, wey he attempt to escape several times.

One night, Suhayb feign stomach problems wey he go out repeatedly as if responding to calls of nature.[4] Ein captors cam be relaxed wey Suhayb quietly arm einself, he ready a mount wey he head for Medina. Wen ein captors realize Suhayb go, dem pursue den eventually catch up plus am. Seeing dem approach, Suhayb clamber up a hill den hold ein bow den arrow, he shout:

"Men of Quraish! You know, by God, that I am one of the best archers and my aim is unerring. By God, if you come near me, with each arrow I have, I shall kill one of you. Then I shall strike with my sword."

De men respond, "By God, we shall not let you escape from us with your life and money. You came to Mecca weak and poor and you have acquired what you have acquired."
