Controversy
[edit | edit source]De situation surrounding de Aboso Glass Factory highlights ongoing tensions regarding resource management den community involvement. De opposition by de youth to Linkin Birds Company accessing scraps from de factory suggests concerns about transparency, equitable benefits for locals, or potential environmental impacts.[2]
Such disputes be common when decisions about local resources be made without sufficient community engagement, particularly when those resources hold economic or historical significance. GIHOC Distilleries Company, as a key stakeholder, might need to work closely plus de community to address these concerns den ensure dat any agreements be fair den mutually beneficial.[2]
Insyd a phone interview, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company, explained dat de directive originated from a new investor den assured dat only de scraps would be removed, plus nothing else taken out.[2]
De community, however, disputes dis claim, stating dat scraps be still being taken away. Dem allege dat roofing sheets from de building have sana been removed, den transformers powering de factory have been dismantled.[2]
History
[edit | edit source]De Aboso Glass Factory set up by Kwame Nkrumah insyd 1966, was a major manufacturer den supplier of bottles for de beverage industry, among many other products. Most of de employees were residents from Aboso den other neighbouring communities. De company was renamed as Tropical Glass Factory when it was handed over to Gilchrist Olympio. However due to financial constraints, de company collapsed. Insyd 2003, Aboso Glass Factory was placed on a divestiture listing, after ECG ceased power supply for demma works. De government insyd 2017 has announced plans of restoring de company to ein former glory plus de help of some investors. Insyd 2019, GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited declared a takeover of de Aboso Glass Factory. Aboso youth insyd de Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of de Western Region to hit de streets if there be no signs of revising glass factory.
