Agyeman Badu Akosa (born 25 December 1953) be Ghanaian pathologist, academic, politician plus social commentator.[1][2][3] He serve as Director-General of Ghana Health Service from 2002 go 2006. He be member of Convention People's Party plus well-known believer in de ideals of Kwame Nkrumah, founder of CPP.[4][5][6] He contest as de Party ein presidential candidate before 2008 General elections but he lose to Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum.[7][8] He be professor of Pathology[1][9] plus advocate on lifestyle matters.[2][9]

Dem born Agyeman Badu Akosa on 25 December 1953 to Jones Clifford Akosa plus Nancy Akosua Nkrabea Akosa insyd Asante Mampong insyd Ashanti Region of Ghana. He do ein secondary school education for Prempeh College insyd Ashanti Region for ein GCE Ordinary Level plus Ghana Senior High Technical School insyd Takoradi, Western Region for ein GCE Advanced Level. He continue ein education for University of Ghana wey he obtain Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB BCh) from University of Ghana, Legon for 1979 plus Defined contribution plan from University London, 1983.[10]

Akosa start ein career as House Officer for Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, Ghana from 1979 go 1980, den he begin ein residency wey he specialize in pathology for de same hospital from 1980 go 1982. He move go Royal Postgraduate Medical School insyd Hammersmith Hospital for London to work plus understudy as registrar from 1984 go 1986, den as senior registrar from 1986 go 1990 for de same hospital. He sana work for St. Bernard's Hospital, Gibraltar from 1988 go 1990. From 1990 go 1995, Akosa serve as consultant plus director for Whipps Cross Hospital, London. For 1996, he return Ghana after ein work plus study experience to work insyd Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital as director of pathology. He sana work as Head of department of Pathology insyd University of Ghana Medical School. He rise to de rank of professor of pathology insyd University of Ghana Medical School.[10]

Akosa be member of Convention People's Party (CPP). He dey well known for ein stand as true patriot plus Nkrumaist, wey he believe in de ideals plus ideologies of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, founder of CPP plus first president of Republic of Ghana. Over de years, he don serve on plenty committees of de party den people dey regard am as one of de key members of de party.[13][14][15]

Insyd 2007, he declare say he go contest for de party ein presidential candidate primaries election against Paa Kwesi Nduom wey be Member of Parliament for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, 2004 elections presidential candidate George Aggudey, economist plus engineer Dr. Kwaku Osafo, Bright Akwetey plus Asante Akufo. For December 2017, during Party ein Delegates' Congress wey happen for Great Hall KNUST, he lose de primaries den he place second after Paa Kwesi Nduom wey dem give de mandate to stand as flag bearer for 2008 elections. Nduom get 1,067 votes, he get 664 votes, followed by Aggudey, Kwaku Osafo, Akwetey plus Akufo wey get 139 votes, 48 votes, 37 votes plus 11 votes respectively at de end of de voting.[16]

After de election, some information dey on radio plus newspapers say Nduom go choose am as ein running mate, but Nduom choose Michael Abu Sakara Foster. After dat, dem appoint am as member of de party ein national campaign team to support Nduom win de 2008 elections, wey Ivor Kobina Greenstreet serve as Chairman of de National Parliamentary Campaign Team. Unfortunately, de party lose de elections as John Atta Mills of NDC win after second round of voting.[17]

Akosa be one of de three names wey media shortlist for vice presidential role under de then flag bearer Michael Abu Sakara Foster of de party, but later dem choose Nana Akosua Frimpomaa-Sarpong as de party ein first female running mate..[18][19][20]

National transition team

Akosa get appointment as member of de 24-member National Transition Team under de Presidential Transition Act, 2012 (Act 845) by de then President-elect John Dramani Mahama of NDC after he win de elections for December 2012, even though Akosa no be member of NDC. De transition team get Vice President-elect Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as chairman.[21][22][23]

Akosa be member of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) plus Commonwealth Medical Association den he don serve as president for both associations before, with GMA presidency from 1999 go 2001. He sana be member of Royal College Pathologists (London), British Medical Association, British Society Dermatopathologists plus New York Academy of Sciences.[24]

He be Vice Chairman for de Executive Board of de African Population Health Research Centre wey dey Nairobi, Kenya, plus he dey serve on de board of Safety Ghana.[24]

He dey serve as Executive Chairman for Ghana Healthcare Ltd, Chairman for de Tobacco Control Task Force for Ghana, plus board member of Ghana Prisons Service. He also dey serve as Chairman for St. John Ambulance, Trust Hospital, plus Vitamilk Foundation. He be President of Ghana Skin Foundation too.[25]
