Aubrey Baartman
Nevie Aubrey Baartman (born 4 October 1958) be South African politician from Northern Cape. He be de provincial leader of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) plus EFF representative insyd Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. Before dat, he be senior provincial member of African National Congress (ANC).
Political career
[edit | edit source]Baartman be former member of de ANC. He join de party insyd de 1990s den serve on multiple party structures. He serve as mayor of Namakwa District Municipality plus as regional secretary of de party ein Namakwa region. Baartman be member of National Executive Committee of South African Football Association (SAFA).[1]
Baartman join de EFF insyd 2013 when dem form de party. He turn de first provincial leader of de party. Before dem elect am go Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, he serve as municipal manager of Nama Khoi Local Municipality. He take office as member of de provincial legislature insyd May 2014.[1]
Insyd 2019, Baartman get re-elected for second term as member of de provincial legislature.[2] For 2 October 2022, provincial secretary Shadrack Tlhaole get elected to take over from Baartman as provincial chairperson of de EFF.[3] Baartman resign from de provincial legislature insyd 31 October 2022.[4]
Legal issues
[edit | edit source]Insyd 2016, dem accuse Baartman say he commit fraud during ein time as municipal manager. Baartman deny dem claims.[5] For 2024, Baartman get sentenced to three years of correctional supervision for no follow correct tender procedures when he dey award one tender during ein time as municipal manager.[6]
