Bagabaga College of Education be a teacher education college insyd Tamale (Sagnarigu District, Northern Region, Ghana).[1][2] De college dey locate insyd Northern Zone zone. E be one of de 46 public colleges of Education insyd Ghana.[3] De college participate insyd de DFID-funded T-TEL programme.[4] De college dey set up insyd January 1944 plus 17 males students plus an objective to train professional teachers to teach insyd basic schools. De college be affiliate to de University of Education, Winneba.[5]
History
[edit | edit source]Bagabaga College of Education (BATCO) now known as (BACE) dey open for 31 January, 1944 insyd plus de motto ‘ADVANCE WITH THE SCIENCES’. Seventeen male students dey enroll as pioneer students plus Mr. K. J. Dickens as de first principal. Messrs Abu Wemah den J. C. Annan be de oda two pioneer members of de teaching staff.[6]

Programmes
[edit | edit source]Programmes de college dey offer over de years:
- 1944- 2—year Certificate “B” teacher training course; shortly started the 2 year Certificate ‘A’ post “B” course.
- 1961 one-year Rural Agricultural Science course and later upgraded to a two-year Agriculture Science specialist course.
- 1967 2-year post secondary teacher training college course.
- 1972/73 started 3-year post secondary teacher training course
- 1972/73, a two-year specialist course in General Science and Mathematics was started in addition to the already existing Agricultural Science course.
- 1983/84 mounted a post-middle modular programme 1987/88 Certificate ‘A’ post-modular teacher programme was introduced (it was short-lived)
- 2004/2005 Diploma in Basic Education programme (Regular & Distance) and Certificate ‘A’ 4-year (Distance) course.[6]
Notable alumni
[edit | edit source]De college dey produce over 7,000 teachers (of various grades den categories) for de Ghana Education Service. Chaw past students have hold responsible positions insyd various spheres of our national life. Notable among these old students hu distinguish demselves:
- Dr. Hilla Limann -President of de Third Republic of Ghana.
- Chief Simon Diedong Dombo - Leader of Opposition insyd Parliament insyd 1960.
- Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia - Lawyer, former diplomat, former chairman of Council of state of de Forth Republic of Ghana den former chief of Kperiga traditional area Walewale.
- Mr. Jatoe Kaleo - Minister of state of de Second Republic of Ghana.
- Mr. B. K. Adama - Minister of defence insyd de Second Republic of Ghana.
- Chief Abeifaa Karbo - Paramount chief of Lawra traditional area, den former chairman of Public Services Commission.
