Bala Garba Jahumpa (born 20 July 1958 insyd Banjul[1]) be a Gambian politician den diplomat.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Bala be son of I.M. Garba-Jahumpa. E attend two high schools for Gambia from 1970 to 1975, then e go Suffield Academy plus Vassar College for U.S. from 1975 to 1980. E graduate from Vassar plus bachelor's degree in International Relations den Political Science. Later, from 1987 to 1989, Jahumpa go Birmingham University for United Kingdom, where e get ein master's degree in Development Administration.[1]
Political career
[edit | edit source]Jahumpa serve as Minister of Finance of de Gambia from 1994 to 1995. On 20 March 1995, dem appoint am as Minister of Trade, Industry and Employment, but on 5 July 1995, dem appoint am again as Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, position wey e hold till 1997. After dat, e serve as Deputy High Commissioner of de Gambia for de United Kingdom from July 1997 to May 1999, den from May 1999 to June 2001 e be Acting High Commissioner there. After e serve small time as Ambassador to Cuba, e become Secretary of State for Works, Construction and Infrastructure for October 2003. On 26 October 2006, President Yahya Jammeh cancel Maba Jobe ein appointment as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs den appoint Jahumpa take ein place, wey take effect from de day before.[2] Jahumpa too later dey replace for dat position by Crispin Grey-Johnson for mid-September 2007.[3]
After dat, dem designate Jahumpa as Ambassador to Venezuela. On October 3, dem carry am go for questioning over passport scam matter, together plus some other officials from de Foreign Affairs Department.[4] Even though dem arrest am, de police clear am not long after.[5] After ein term as Ambassador of de Gambia to Venezuela and Spain, dem appoint am for November 2012 as Minister of Health for de Gambia.
