Clement Kubindiwor Tedam (25 November 1925 – 25 April 2019) be Ghanaian politician wey come from royal family of Paga wey dey Upper East Region of Ghana.[1][2]
Political career
[edit | edit source]C. K. Tedam enter politics through ein membership for de Gold Coast Legislative Assembly for 1954. Dem elect am go parliament dat same year (1954) as independent candidate. Later, he join hands plus Mumuni Bawumia, Alhassan Braimah (J. A. Braimah), Tolon Naa Alhaj Yakubu Tali, Adam Amandi, Lawra Naa Abeifaa Karbo II, Imoru Salifu, den Simon Diedong Dombo (Mohammed Abdul-saaka) to co-found de Northern People's Party.[3] Insyd 1956, he contest elections under Northern People's Party wey he win, den serve as MP till 1957. But for 1957, Kwame Nkrumah ban sectarian parties wey base on ethnicity, region or religion, so de Northern People's Party join other parties to form United Party (Ghana). Dem operate under United Party till 1964 when Ghana turn one-party state after referendum. As result, C. K. Tedam for choose between join Convention People’s Party (CPP) or lose ein seat. He choose CPP – not just to save ein MP seat, but make de CPP government reverse demma suspension of ein brother as Chief of Paga wey ein uncle dey contest.[4] Later on, he serve as Minister of Local Government under de Supreme Military Council (Ghana).[5] For 1969, he win another seat for de second republic, but court disqualify am based on legal challenge wey argue say all former CPP members no fit hold political office again. De court uphold de case so he for step down from parliament. Dem hold by-election, den he support ein niece Catherine Tedam, wey win de seat.[6]
C. K. Tedam be member of Council of State insyd John Kufuor ein regime.[7] He be one of de founding members of New Patriotic Party. He come turn Chairman for de Party demma Council of Elders during de time NPP go Opposition afta 2008, den he remain for dat role till he die.

He, however, cam from a political party. Na ein niece, Catherine Tedam win de by-election wey she represent de Chiana Paga Constituency as an MP during de administration of Kofi Abrefa Busia. Na dis be after na dem disqualify C. K. Tedam from make he be an MP secof ein previous association plus de CPP.[9]
Na he marry Winifred Tedam, daughter den sisto respectively of Lawra Nas (Traditional Ruler of de Lawra Paramouncy); J.K. Karbo den Abeifa Karbo. Na C. K. Tedam get six kiddies. Na he be Catholic; a member of The Most Ancient and Noble Order of de Knights of St. John International, a religious den charity organisation insyd de Catholic Church worldwide wey na he be Kasena by tribe.
Death
[edit | edit source]C. K. Tedam die peacefully insyd de night of 25 April 2019 for Korle Bu Teaching Hospital insyd Accra wey he bin dey undergo treatment.[10][11] Dem bury am on Saturday 22nd June 2019 for Paga, ein hometown wey dey Kassena Nankana West district insyd Upper East Region.[12]
