Cheick Oumar Sissoko (born 1945 insyd San, Mali) be a Malian film director den politician.
Biography
[edit | edit source]Wen he be student for Paris, Cheick Oumar Sissoko get DEA insyd African History plus Sociology, den diploma insyd History plus Cinema from de Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales. Afta dat, he kontinue ein cinema studies for de Ecole nationale Louis Lumière.
Wen he come back Mali, he start to direct film for de Centre National de la Production Cinématographique (CNPC), wey be where he direct Sécheresse et Exode rural ("Drought and Rural Exodus").
Insyd 1995, he direct Guimba (The Tyrant), wey win special jury prizes for de International Film Festival of Locarno, plus l'Etalon de Yennenga (Stallion of Yennenga) for FESPACO (de Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou).
Insyd 1999, La Genèse (Genesis) come out, den dis film make Sissoko win anoda Etalon de Yennenga for FESPACO. For 2000, he direct Battù, wey dem base am on one novel wey Aminata Sow Fall write; dis film make he win de RFI Prize for Cinema for FESPACO insyd 2001.
Sissoko establish ein own production company wey he name Kora Film.
Sissoko plus Oumar Mariko start one political party wey dem call African Solidarity for Democracy and Independence (SADI) for 1996.[1] Sissoko be de party ein president.[2] Dem nominate am as Minister of Culture for de government of Prime Minister Ahmed Mohamed Ag Hamani on 16 October 2002,[3] den he still continue as Minister of Culture under Prime Minister Issoufi Ousmane Maïga ein government wey dem announce on 2 May 2004.[4] On 8 August 2007, afta Minister of National Education Mamadou Lamine Traoré die for July, dem appoint Sissoko as Minister of National Education, but he still keep ein position as Minister of Culture.[5] But dem no include am for de government wey dem name on 3 October 2007.[6]

De theme insyd The Garbage Boys follow Sissoko ein own belief for how we for promote diversity plus make people understand each other. For one interview wey he do for Festival au Désert as Minister of Culture, he talk say:
I dey believe say de most important work wey I get be to protect de unity wey dey between de different ethnic group dem for Mali. One of de way wey we fit take do dis be to support festival dem like dis one through government money... De difference dem between we people start since many hundred years ago. We for accept dem differences den show respect to each other. We dey do dis thing well well because Mali people dey very hospitable den dem like to live together. De festival dem dey help people meet den relate, den e dey work proper.
Insyd 1999, dem honour Sissoko plus one Prince Claus Award from de Prince Claus Fund, wey be one international culture plus development organisation wey base insyd Amsterdam.
