Christiana Wilmot (24 July 1915 – before 2010) be Ghanaian civil servant plus politician. She serve as member of Parliament of Ghana from 1960 to 1966. From 1960 to 1965, she be de Second Member from Central den Western Region, den from 1965 to 1966, she be Member of Parliament for Shama.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born am insyd Lower Axim town on 24 July 1915. Wilmot start ein early education for Axim Methodist School, den York Hall School for Axim from 1924 to 1930.[1] She continue her education for Government Girls' School insyd Cape Coast later insyd 1930, wey she graduate insyd 1932.[1]
Career den politics
[edit | edit source]Insyd 1933, dem employ her for Post and Telegraph Department as telephonist for de Exchange Section.[1] She form Women Association insyd 1938, den she serve as member of Axim Hospital Board for 1940 den 1948.[2][3] Insyd 1947, she be founding member den Chairperson of Axim branch of United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), den from 1951 to 1952.[2] She be chairperson for Axim branch of People's Educational Association (PEA). Na she sanso be Chairperson for women dema section insyd Convention People’s Party (CPP), den local councilor for women dema section for Axim.[2][4] Insyd 1954, she join Public Works Department (PWD) for Takoradi as telephonist den councilor, den three years later, she become camp superintendent for women dema section of de Workers' Brigade.[4] She be member of Gold Coast delegation go Peking insyd 1956, Ghana delegation go Finland insyd 1957, Ghana delegation go Vienna insyd 1958, Ghana delegation go Geneva insyd 1960, Ghana delegation go Cairo insyd 1961, plus Ghana delegation go West Germany insyd 1962.[4]
Insyd 1960, Wilmot be one of de first women wey enter Parliament of Ghana under de Representation of the People (Women Members) Act. She be one of de 10 women wey dem elect unopposed on 27 June 1960 under Convention People’s Party (CPP) ticket.[5][6] She be de Second Member for Central den Western Regions.[3][5] Insyd 1965, she become Member of Parliament for Shama constituency.[7] She work for dis position till 1966 when dem overthrow Nkrumah ein government.
Personal life den death
[edit | edit source]Wilmot marry ein spouse insyd 1935.[1] She die before 2010.[8]
