Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) be a condition insyd wich de heart cam be enlarged den no fi pump blood effectively.[1] Symptoms dey vary from none to feeling tired, leg swelling, den shortness of breath.[2] E sanso fi result in chest pain anaa fainting.[2] Complications fi include heart failure, heart valve disease, anaa an irregular heartbeat.[1][3]

Causes dey include genetics, alcohol, cocaine, certain toxins, complications of pregnancy, den certain infections.[4][5] Coronary artery disease den high blood pressure fi play a role, buh no be de primary cause.[4][6] Insyd chaw cases de cause remain unclear.[4] E be a type of cardiomyopathy, a group of diseases wey primarily dey affect de heart muscle.[1] De diagnosis fi be supported by an electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, anaa echocardiogram.[5]

Insyd those plus heart failure, treatment fi include medications insyd de ACE inhibitor, beta blocker, den diuretic families.[5] A low salt diet sanso fi be helpful.[6] Insyd those plus certain types of irregular heartbeat, blood thinners anaa an implantable cardioverter defibrillator fi be recommended. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) fi be necessary.[5] If oda measures no be effective a heart transplant fi be an option in sam.[5]

About 1 per 2,500 people be affected.[5] E dey occur more frequently insyd men dan women.[7] Onset most be often insyd middle age.[6] Five-year survival rate be about 50%.[5] E sanso fi occur insyd kiddies wey e be de most common type of cardiomyopathy insyd dis age group.[5]
