Djibo Yacouba (February 28, 1923 – August 4, 1968) be a Nigerien politician den diplomat.[1]
Early life den career
[edit | edit source]Djibo Yacouba first attend school for Téra, ein hometown, before e move go Niamey wey e attend de Regional School den de Higher Primary School. As e need upgrade ein education, e travel go Dakar where e attend École normale William-Ponty from 1940 go 1943, wey e specialize for teaching. Dem exempt am from military service, so e work as assistant teacher den dem assign am as administrator for de Professional School plus Normal Course for Niamey. After Niamey, e go teach for other cities wey dey Niger. Among ein extracurricular activities, theater occupy important place. He plus Mahamane Dan Dobi, Souleymane Ly, plus Zada Niandou influence theater life for urban centers of Niger during de 1940s den 1950s. E write one play titled Le Marché noir wey address de issues of urban life for Africa.[2] Dis period mark strong involvement for politics, especially for de independence struggles.
Political career
[edit | edit source]Insyd 1956, Djibo Yacouba enter politics as municipal councilor plus territorial councilor. Later, dem elect am as deputy of de Nigerien Progressive Party (PPN-RDA), first enter de Territorial Assembly, then de National Assembly. Wen dem form de first government insyd 1958, President Hamani Diori appoint am as Minister of Livestock plus Animal Industries. For de following years, e hold Minister positions for Rural Economy den for Defense, Information plus Youth. Insyd November 1966, dem appoint am as ambassador to Belgium plus representative to de European Economic Community (EEC) for Brussels. E die for car accident while on mission insyd Niamey insyd August 1968. E leave behind ein wife, Fatou Djibo, wey be teacher plus women's rights activist,[3] plus 8 kiddies.
