De Edina Bronya Festival be an annual harvest festival wey be celebrated by de chiefs den peoples of Elmina insyd de Central Region of Ghana. De festival be a novel Christmas during de Dutch era of de colonial period. Dem usually dey celebrate am insyd de first Thursday of January every year.[1][2][3][4]

History

After na de Portuguese suffer defeat in de hands of de Dutch insyd 1627, dem introduce a form of 'Christmas' dem locally know as Bronya to de local people. E dey coincide plus de Dutch Festival den dey signify de relationship between de people of Elmina den de Dutch.[5]

Celebrations

Families den paddies get togeda make dem celebrate plus merry-making den eating. On de eve of de festival, dem dey fire shots at midnight by de Paramount Chief to usher into de New Year. De Paramount Chief dey ride insyd a palanquin on de day wey dey follow.[6] Dem dey slaughter sheep in front of de Elmina Castle.[7]
