Edmund Nee Ocansey
Edmund Nee Ocansey be a Ghanaian politician. Na he be de member of parliament for de Osudoku constituency from 1956 to 1966.[1][2]
Biography

[edit | edit source]Dem born Ocansey insyd December 1913 for Ada, Gold Coast (wey now be Ghana). He start ein early school for Accra Royal School, wey he get ein Standard 7 certificate for 1935. After dat, he go Tetteh ein College of Commerce, where he train as stenographer, typist, plus draughtsman surveyor.[3]
Career
[edit | edit source]Later, he turn building contractor and he form Yesnaco Building Company together plus some expatriates. For 1946, dem elect am chairman for African Builders and Contractors Federation.[4]
Politics
[edit | edit source]Dat same year, Ocansey join Mambii Party, den later join United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC). For 1948, he join Convention People's Party (CPP), wey he form de first youth league for de party insyd Adabraka den become de chairman. He too be organiser plus chairman for de motor despatch unit of CPP, den he buy de first 12 motor cycles for de unit top for 5,760 cedis (dat time be £2,400), plus he buy de Accra Evening News press for 1,200 cedis (dat time be £500) for public auction den hand am go Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Insyd 1952, dem elect am councillor for Ward 15-Adabraka. For 1953, he follow Nkrumah go Monrovia as dem invite am by de then President for Republic of Liberia, William Tubman. For 1954, he represent Gold Coast for African Administrative Town Growth Conference wey happen for Cambridge.[5]
Dem elect Ocansey as member of parliament for Osudoku constituency for 1956,[6] den two years after, dem appoint am Regional Commissioner for Eastern Region, wey he dey in charge of de Ga-Adangbe side of de Region. For 1962, dem appoint am Deputy Minister for Justice, plus dem give am full responsibility for de administration den supervision of de Ga-Adangbe Region. Later, dem transfer am go Ministry of Agriculture make he serve as deputy minister in charge of state farms plus fisheries. For 1963, he lead Government delegation go China den Korea for demma independence anniversary celebrations.[7] For February 1965, dem appoint am as Minister of Parks and Gardens, new ministry wey Nkrumah just create.[8][9] Ocansey serve for dis position till 24 February 1966 wey dem overthrow de Nkrumah government.
