Emmanuel Kobla Bensah be Ghanaian nurse pharmacist den politician during de First Republic. He serve as nurse pharmacist for different hospitals insyd de Gold Coast before he enter politics. As politician, he serve insyd different ministerial portfolios under de Nkrumah government till dem overthrow Kwame Nkrumah.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Bensah on 26 March 1912 for Woe, one town insyd de Volta Region. He get ein early education for Bremen Mission Schools for Anloga den Keta wey he receive ein Standard 7 certificate for 1928. For 1930, he write de Common Gold Coast Entrance Examination for training as nurse pharmacist den he pass.[1][2]
Career den politics
[edit | edit source]After he pass ein examination, dem employ am for Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. There, he start ein training as nurse for 1931 den qualify as nurse for 1934. Later, he train as nurse pharmacist den qualify for 1937. During de period wey he work as civil servant, he serve for hospitals insyd different parts of Ghana (wey be Gold Coast by den), including Sefwi-Wiawso, Kumasi, Accra den Dunkwa-on-Offin. Before he resign from civil service take enter private business for 1948, he dey stationed for Agona Swedru.[1]
Insyd 1951, Bensah get elect go de legislative assembly as member for Agona Swedru Constituency.[3] For 1953, dem appoint am as Ministerial Secretary to de Ministry of Communications and Trade. For 1956, he get re-elect again as member of de legislative assembly, den dat same year dem post am go Ministry of Finance still as Ministerial Secretary till May 1957.[4] Insyd June 1957, he get promote to minister status, den dem appoint am as Minister of Works, wey later for dat same year turn Minister of Works and Housing.[5][6] Insyd 1961, dem appoint am as Minister for Construction and Communications,[7] wey dis position later change to Minister of Communications and Works.[1][2][8]

[edit | edit source]Bensah marry Madam Dina Ayeh from 1937 to 1942. He later marry Madam Annie Hughes.[1]
