Ferdinand Koblavi Dra Goka (1919–2007) be Ghanaian teacher plus politician. He be Volta Regional Minister, den Ghana ein second Finance Minister during de First Republic.[1] People dey give am credit as de man wey change de name from Trans Volta Togoland go Volta Region.[2]
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Goka dem on 7 November 1919 to Reverend F. D. Goka[3] for Mafi Anfoe insyd Volta Region. He go school for Evangelical Presbyterian Church (E. P. C.) Middle School for Hohoe, where he get ein Cambridge School Certificate for 1941. From 1943 to 1944, he study for Akropong Presbyterian Training College. He later enter Ewe Presbyterian Theological Seminary for Ho, plus he qualify as catechist.[4]
Career den politics
[edit | edit source]Afta Goka finish ein basic education, dem employ am as pupil teacher for 1934 for ein hometown Mafi Anfoe insyd Volta Region. Afta he qualify as Certificate A Grade I teacher, he take appointment for Keta Presbyterian Middle School for January 1946. He resign from ein teaching work for June 1948, den take office as Assistant Education Secretary for Anlo-Tongu District Education Committee.[4]
Goka later enter politics, den for June 1954, dem elect am as member of de Legislative Assembly. Dat same year, dem appoint am as Ministerial Secretary (deputy minister) for de Ministry of Health. For June 1959, dem appoint am as Regional Commissioner for Volta Region, den on 1 July 1960, he become Minister for Trade. On 8 May 1961, he get appointment as Minister for Finance. Later dat same year, dem merge de Ministry of Trade plus de Ministry of Finance. So on 1 October 1961, he become Minister for Trade and Finance. He work for dat position till 1964, wey dem replace am plus Kwesi Amoako Atta.[5]
Death den tribute
[edit | edit source]He die insyd 2007, wey he be either 86 or 88 years old. Togbe Kwasinyi Agyeman IV, wey be de Fia (Chief) of Adidome, describe am as “de greatest son of Mafiland” insyd ein funeral tribute.[2]
