Francis Edward Tachie-Menson be Ghanaian politician. He serve as Deputy Minister, Chairman for de Ghana Housing Corporation, member of parliament, plus State Minister inside de First Republic.[1] He be de Member of Parliament for Denkyira constituency from 1954 go 1965,[2] den later serve as MP for Edina-Eguafo constituency from 1965 to 1966.[3] Insyd 1965, he get appointment as Minister for Housing, position wey he hold till de Nkrumah government overthrow for 1966.[4]
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Tachie-Menson on 19 August 1910 for Elmina insyd Central Region of Ghana (den be Gold Coast). He get certificate for Automobile Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from City and Guilds of London Institute. Later, he earn certificate of Competency for Workers' Education (Trade Unionism) plus Leadership from University of Wisconsin–Madison. After he teach small, he enter Government Technical School (wey now be Ghana Senior High Technical School, Takoradi) for March 1931 den complete ein course for April 1934.[5][6]
Career
[edit | edit source]Tachie-Menson start ein career as pupil teacher for Roman Catholic School insyd Bekwai. After he teach for one year, he enter Government Technical School to finish one 3-year course, wey afta he join Department of Posts and Telegraphs for Accra as linesman on 8 May 1934. On 24 January 1939, dem promote am to 2nd grade sub inspector, den for 1953 as he still dey work for dat position, dem elect am as president of Gold Coast Trades Union Congress (GCTUC). He hold dat position till he resign on 30 June 1954.[7][8]
Politics
[edit | edit source]Insyd June 1954, Tachie-Menson win election represent Denkyira constituency under Convention People's Party (CPP).[9] As he dey serve for parliament, dem appoint am as Parliamentary Secretary (Deputy Minister) for Ministry of Defence for 1958.[10] He work for dat role till 1 April 1961 wey dem comot am from ein Deputy Minister position.[11] Insyd February 1963, he become Chairman of Housing Corporation, den on 1 February 1965, he turn Minister of Housing. Dat same year, he become Member of Parliament for Edina-Eguafo constituency. Tachie-Menson hold all dis positions till dem overthrow Nkrumah ein government on 24 February 1966.
