Francois Beukman be a South African attorney den former politician who serve as a Member of de National Assembly of South Africa from 1999 to 2009 den again from 2014 to 2019.
Dem first elect Beukman go Parliament as member of de now-defunct New National Party for 1999, den he serve as Chairperson for de Standing Committee on Public Accounts from 2001 reach 2004. Beukman join de African National Congress for 2005 when de NNP merge insyd. After he lef parliament for 2009, he serve as executive director for de Independent Complaints Directorate from 2009 go 2012. [edit | edit source]Beukman finish ein secondary school insyd Paarl Boys' High School insyd 1983 before he go study insyd University of Stellenbosch, where he graduate plus Bachelor of Arts insyd Political Science den Public Administration insyd 1986, Honours degree insyd Political Science insyd 1989, den Master of Arts insyd Political Science den Government insyd 1990.[1] Beukman earn BProc Law degree insyd 1996 den Bachelor of Laws insyd 2006, both from University of South Africa.[2] Insyd 1997, dem admit Beukman as attorney.[1]
Early career

He represent de Department of Justice and Constitutional Development insyd Cape Town during de last two years of de Constitutional Assembly. He comot from de department insyd 1995, den go work for private sector plus law firms, wey he be director for one law firm.[3]
Parliamentary career

By 2001, he be de NNP Federal Council spokesperson. He head de NNP ein media department den people regard am as one of de party ein newer generation MPs.[4]
One year after de Democratic Alliance form from de merger of de NNP plus de Democratic Party, DA leader Tony Leon appoint am plus DP MP Raenette Taljaard go de strong Standing Committee on Public Accounts for 2001, but he resign from de committee when de NNP pull from de DA. Even plus dat, dem reappoint Beukman go de committee den elect am as chairperson insyd de committee insyd April 2002 after de NNP plus de ruling African National Congress sign co-operation agreement. He take over from Gavin Woods, wey resign from de position earlier dat year, den he win over DP MP Nigel Bruce through voice vote. MPs from opposition parties call am "ANC lackey". After de 2004 general election, de ANC first talk say one of demma members, Vincent Smith, go chair de SCOPA committee. But de ANC later change demma mind den announce say Beukman go remain SCOPA chairperson. Beukman resign as committee chairperson after he plus other NNP MPs cross go de ANC during de 2005 floor-crossing window period.[5] Beukman continue to serve as ANC Member of Parliament till de 2009 general election.[1]
Third term: 2014–2019

Dem elect am make he chair de Portfolio Committee on Police. Insyd August 2017, Beukman call make dem retain experienced police officers den add say e dey critical to get de needed resources wey go help manage crime, instead of focusing on manpower.[6]
Insyd May 2018, Beukman welcome Advocate Godfrey Lebeya ein appointment as head of de Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, wey people dey call de Hawks.[7]
Beukman take position wey no fit make am elect for ANC demma list insyd 2019 general election, so he comot parliament on 7 May 2019.[1]

[edit | edit source]Insyd 5 August 2009, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa nominate Beukman for de position of executive director of de Independent Complaints Directorate. Demma National Assembly approve ein nomination de next day. He replace de former director Karen McKenzie wey left de position insyd 2005. Beukman announce ein resignation from de position de same day wey Marikana massacre happen insyd August 2012.[8]
