Hans Kofi Boni (born 1927) be Ghanaian politician during de first republic of Ghana. He be Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West constituency.
Member of parliament
[edit | edit source]Boni be member of de Convention People's Party (CPP) under Kwame Nkrumah. He get elect as MP for Ho West during de first republic den he get sworn in on 11 August 1960.[1][2] For de 1965 Ghanaian parliamentary election, 198 MPs wey all represent CPP get elect unopposed after de 1964 Constitutional Amendments increase de powers of de President of Ghana.[3] Boni serve as member of parliament for Yingor constituency until de 24 February 1966 coup d'état wey overthrow de civilian government den bring in de National Liberation Council (NLC) military government.
Minister insyd government
[edit | edit source]Boni serve as Volta Regional Commissioner between 1961 and 1965 under de Nkrumah government.[4] He be one of seven Regional Commissioners (Regional Ministers) wey United States invite make dem tour de USA after dem visit Soviet Union.[5] While he dey serve for dis position, Boni—wey be native of Kpedze—advise de Kpedze Youth Association make dem invest in building secondary school. Dis advice lead to de founding of Kpedze Senior High School for October 1962.[6][7]
Jail sentence
[edit | edit source]For 1969, Boni get sentence to six years imprisonment plus "productive hard labour" by Accra High Court wey Justice E. K. Wiredu preside over. Dem find am guilty together plus Joseph Kodzo for inappropriate disbursement of funds from de then Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). Dem both be former Volta Regional Commissioners under Kwame Nkrumah ein government. Ein defence be say he just dey carry out Nkrumah ein orders, but de presiding judge no accept dat explanation.[8]
Later life
[edit | edit source]As of July 2024, Boni be de last living minister wey serve insyd de Cabinet of Kwame Nkrumah.[9]
