Hawa Yakubu Ogede (24 March 1948 – 20 March 2007) be Ghanaian politician. She serve as Member of Parliament for de Fourth Republic of Ghana wey she sanso serve as Minister for Tourism.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Hawa Yakubu for Tarkwa insyd Western Region for Ghana. She be native of Pusiga wey dey Upper East Region. Being a member of de Bissa ethnic group, Hawa Yakubu be one of de founding members of de annual Zekula festival.[1]
Yakubu start ein early education for Zebilla Middle School wey she do ein secondary school for Navrongo Secondary School. She go tertiary school for Accra Polytechnic (wey now be Accra Technical University) wer she get diploma for Institutional Management.
Ein Career
[edit | edit source]Before she enter politics, Yakubu be domestic bursar den businesswoman. She dey very hardworking.
Ein Political career
[edit | edit source]For 1979, dem elect Yakubu widout opposition to ein local council wey she be de youngest member of de constituent assembly wey wrep de constitution for Ghana ein Third Republic. She sanso serve as Women's Leader give de United National Convention wen de party start for 1979. For 1981, wen military coup happen, Yakubu run go London den later Nigeria. She live for voluntary exile reach 1991.
For dat year, Yakubu return Ghana, den de next year, she contest for parliamentary seat for Bawku Central district, wich she win despite she be an independent candidate. Dem elect am into de first parliament of de Fourth Republic of Ghana on 7 January 1993 after dem announce say she win for de 1992 Ghanaian parliamentary election wey happen on 29 December 1992.[2] Later, she loose de seat under controversial circumstances wey she move go Cotonou, Benin until 2000.
For 2000, she return Ghana wey she win back ein parliamentary seat. For 2001 den 2002, she get appointment as Minister of Tourism under President John Kufuor. She sanso serve as Ghanaian representative to de Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament during dat time. Yakubu loose ein parliament seat for 2004.
When she die for 2007, dem report say na she dey suffer cancer for sam time wey she seek treatment for London den South Africa.
Death
[edit | edit source]She die for London, United Kingdom secof cancer.[3] She leave behind three kiddies: Derek Ayebo from ein first marriage, den Amanda den Didi Ogede from ein second marriage.
