Abu al-Fida Isma'il ibn Umar ibn Kathir al-Dimashqi (Arabic: أبو الفداء إسماعيل بن عمر بن كثير الدمشقي, romanized: Abū al-Fidā' Ismā'īl ibn 'Umar ibn Kathīr al-Dimashqī; c. 1300–1373), dem know simply as Ibn Kathir, na he be an Arab Islamic exegete, historian den scholar. An expert on tafsir (Quranic exegesis), tarikh (history) den fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), he be considered a leading authority on Sunni Islam.

Biography

Na ein full name be Abū l-Fidāʾ Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUmar ibn Kaṯīr (أبو الفداء إسماعيل بن عمر بن كثير‎) wey he get de laqab (epithet) of ʿImād ad-Dīn (عماد الدين‎, 'pillar of the faith'). Ein family dey trace ein lineage back to de tribe of Quraysh. Dem born am insyd Mijdal, a village on de outskirts of de city of Busra, insyd de east of Damascus, Syria, around about AH 701 (AD 1300/1).[3] He loose ein poppie at de age of three, insyd AH 703 / AD 1303. He receive ein first lessons of Islamic jurisprudence from ein elder bro, Kamal al-Din Abd al-Wahhab.[4] Ibn Taymiyya den Al-Dhahabi teach am.

Insyd later life, he cam be blind.[2] He attribute ein blindness to working late at night on de Musnad of Ahmad Ibn Hanbal in an attempt to rearrange am topically rather dan by narrator. He die insyd February 1373 (AH 774) insyd Damascus. Dem bury am next to ein teacher Ibn Taymiyya.[5]
