Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (14th December, 1974 – 6th August, 2025) be a Ghanaian politician wey serve as de Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation den as a member of parliament til ein death insyd de 2025 Ghanaian Air Force helicopter crash.
Na he previously serve as de Deputy Minister for Information den Media Relations den de Deputy Minister of Trade den Industry.[1][2] Insyd December 2024, na he dem re-electe to serve as Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Constituency.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Muhammed Murtala begin ein basic education at Tamale Presby Basic School (Kulikuli School) before enrolling at Ghana Senior High School insyd Tamale.[3] He be a trained teacher hu hold a teacher's certificate A from Tamale College of Education (TACE), formerly Tamale training College (TATCO).[4] He sanso hold a master's degree insyd Development Planning den International Relations den Diplomacy from de Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology den de University of Ghana respectively.[4]
Political career
[edit | edit source]Insyd 2009, after a change of political power from de NPP to NDC, Dem appoint Muhammed de deputy national coordinator of de National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) by John Evans Atta Mills wich later dey rebrand into Ghana Youth Employment Development Agency, (GYEDA).[5][6]
Member of Parliament
[edit | edit source]Insyd 2006, following de decision by Wayo Seini, MP for Tamale Central constituency to defect to de NPP, a by-election be declare to fill de vacancy. Muhammed stand for de NDC primaries but lose to Inusah Fuseini hu eventually win de by-election to replace Wayo Seini. Muhammed conteste ein party's primaries insyd 2008 den lose again to Fuseini hu go on to retain ein position insyd Parliament. Muhammed go on to contest for de primaries insyd de Nanton Constituency den dis tym, he win to represent de NDC as its Parliamentary candidate for de 2012 election.[7]

Death
[edit | edit source]On 6 August 2025, na Muhammed die insyd a military helicopter crash while he dey travel to Obuasi, insyd de Ashanti Region, for an event to combat galamsey (illegal mining).[8]
