Ikhia Aboubekr Zodi (c. 1919 – February 16, 1996) be a Nigerien politician.
Life den career
[edit | edit source]Zodi born around 1919 for Winditen, plus e come from rich Tuareg family; ein poppie be prominent person from Taghagar. E do ein primary education for Niamey, then go do higher education for École William Ponty insyd Dakar. Insyd 1941, e begin teach for nomadic schools. Later, e become school director—first for École des enfants de troupe wey dey Bingerville, then for École des Kel Gress d'Arzérori.[1]
Insyd 1946, e join de Nigerien Progressive Party, wey be Niger ein branch of African Democratic Rally. By 1948, dem elect am enter de general council of Tahoua, plus dat same year e begin dey active for Nigerien teachers trade union movement. Insyd 1949, e join de Union of Nigerien Independents and Sympathisers (UNIS), group wey affiliate with Democratic and Socialist Union of de Resistance (UDSR).[1] Dem elect am enter French National Assembly insyd 1951 elections, on top UNIS list wey Georges Condat head—dem win both Nigerien seats. De next year, dem elect am enter Nigerien Territorial Assembly wey e represent Filingué, plus dem elect am enter de Grand Council of French West Africa. E stay for de Grand Council until 1957.[1]
Insyd de French National Assembly, he dey sit insyd de UDSR group till 1953. He den move join de Independent Overseas (IOM) group. For insyd de National Assembly, he get some short-short time den post for de National Education Commission. For January 1953, dem include am insyd de Industrial Production Commission.[1] After he lef go IOM, Zodi come dey politically lonely. Zodi take stand as candidate on de UNIS list for de 1956 election. He lose ein seat, as Condat ein new list, de Nigerien Action Bloc, totally beat am.[1]
After de election, Zodi plus ein followers come gather again, den for March 6, 1957, dem form anoda party wey dem call de Nigerien Democratic Front (FDN). FDN link dem body plus de African Convention. He edit de party ein journal L'Unité (Unity).
When dem form de first government of de Republic of Niger for December 31, 1958, Zodi get appointment as Minister of Education, Youth den Sports.[2] For ein position as Minister of Education, he get wahala plus de Minister of Interior. For 1960, dem come move am down to Secretary of State for National Defense. During ein time for dat role, he make travel go Israel.[3]
Later on, Zodi become Minister of African Affairs.[4]
Insyd 1963, he dey part of coup d’etat wey no work. Dem arrest am den give am death sentence. But dem later pardon am, turn de sentence into imprisonment. Dem release am from jail for 1971. After dem release am, he step back from politics.[1] He die for Niamey for 1996.
