Job Shipululo Amupanda (wey dem born am 28 August 1987 insyd Omaalala insyd Oshana Region) be Namibian activist, associate professor, plus politician. E serve as Mayor for de City of Windhoek from 2 December 2020 go 1 December 2021. Before dem co-found de Affirmative Repositioning movement, he be associate professor for de University of Namibia. Dis movement wey dem start for November 2014 be group of radical youth activists from de SWAPO Party Youth League.[1][2][3][4][5]

Early life den education

Dem born Amupanda insyd northern Namibia, insyd one village wey dem dey call Omaalala, insyd 1987. Ein grandmother, Theopolina Adolf, na raise am, den as e be small boy, e dey help am sell merchandise.[6]

From 2005, Amupanda start ein studies for de University of Namibia (UNAM), wey he graduate plus bachelor's degree for political science. From 2008, he serve as president for de Students' Council, den during ein time, he get plenty popularity.[7] Right now, Amupanda be lecturer for de University of Namibia, as Academic Dean for Political Science students.

Education

Insyd 2010, Amupanda continue ein studies for Stellenbosch University, wey he graduate plus BA Honours for political science (2010) den MA for political science (2012). He get BA Honours for history too from University of South Africa. While he dey Stellenbosch, he form de Stellenbosch Political Science Students Association (SPOSSA), den he serve as political education officer plus later as deputy secretary for South African Students Congress. He dedicate ein master's degree give de pikin dem for Namibia, especially de ones wey dey go school without shoe. Insyd 2020, he graduate plus PhD for Political Studies from University of Namibia. De title for ein dissertation be The Consolidated Diamond Mines and the Natives in Colonial Namibia: A Critical Analysis of the Role of Illegal Diamonds and the Development of Owamboland (1908 - 1990). Amupanda na one of de few radical youth for Namibia den he dey talk plenty for youth issues. For 2015, he win Windhoek Observer award for Newsmaker of the Year for politics category, wey he compete plus people like President Hage Geingob, den he win de Overall Newsmaker of de Year award too.

Insyd 2015, Amupanda start to dey lecture political science insyd ein former school, UNAM. One year after, dem appoint am as Deputy Dean for ein faculty, wey make am de youngest person wey dey hold dat position for de school by dat time. Utaara Mootu, Inna Hengari, Joseph Kalimbwe, den Henny Seibeb all be ein former students.[8]

Activism career

Amupanda first enter youth leadership when dem elect am for UNAM SRC for 2007 as secretary for information plus publicity. De next year, he become president for de organisation when he be just 22 years.[9]

Insyd 2013, he join SWAPO Party Youth League afta dem elect am as SPYL secretary for mobilization plus information by de youth wing demma structures. As he dey inside de party ein youth organisation, he fight for land reforms plus make state institutions turn more democratic. But de way he dey push make dem give land to landless Namibians no go well plus cause wahala between am den de SWAPO Party top four – President Hifikepunye Pohamba, ein deputy Hage Geingob, party Secretary General Nangolo Mbumba, plus ein deputy. Dem four come decide make dem sack Amupanda plus Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, George Kambala, den Elijah Ngurare from de party.

Afta dem sack am, Amupanda form de Affirmative Repositioning movement wey dey fight for land and other matters wey dey affect youth dem for Namibia.

Since April 2022, Amupanda dey represent Windhoek Council as member for de Board of Directors for de Association of Local Authorities in Namibia (ALAN).[10]

On 17 August 2019, Amupanda marry ein long-time partner, Taimi Iileka. She be lawyer for Sisa Namandje Incorporation, and de marriage happen for private ceremony wey dem do for ein hometown village Omaalala. Amupanda dey live for Windhoek. He like boxing well-well and dey take part for boxing activities.[11][12]

Affirmative Repositioning

Amupanda get political respect for Burkina Faso ein Thomas Sankara, Zimbabwe ein former president Robert Mugabe, South Africa demma Steve Biko, Robert Sobukwe, plus Julius Malema wey be leader for de Economic Freedom Fighters.

Insyd November 2014, Amupanda, Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, plus George Kambala — all dem from SWAPO Youth League — go occupy land for de rich Klein Windhoek area as way to take demand land for de city, plus to react to tori wey talk say Windhoek municipality dey do corruption. Dem name de action "Erf 2014" to match de year wey dem do am. SWAPO see dis move as illegal way to take municipal land, so dem comot de three activists from de party. Just before dat, Amupanda resign from ein position as spokesperson for de SWAPO Party Youth League.

After dat, Amupanda, Nauyoma, plus Kambala form Affirmative Repositioning (AR) movement. De movement gather plenty young people wey go City of Windhoek head office to submit more than 14,000 land application forms. Amupanda take dem go court, challenge ein expulsion, and win; so dem reinstate am as party member for May 2016. Amupanda represent ein party (Affirmative Repositioning Party) for de election wey happen for Namibia on 27 November 2024.

Mayor of Windhoek

Insyd November 2019, Amupanda start prepare einsef for de position of Mayor of Windhoek under ein group, Affirmative Repositioning Movement. On 2 December, after some months of campaign, dem elect am as Mayor of de city after opposition members vote make he lead de municipality.
