De Kaleo Power Station be a 13 MW (17,000 hp) solar power plant insyd Ghana. E be owned wey na e be developed by de Volta River Authority, between February 2020 den August 2022. De power off-taker be GRIDCo (Ghana Grid Company), wich dey integrate de electricity into de national grid.[1]

Kaleo dey locate approximately 27.5 kilometres (17 mi) southeast of de town of Nadowli, de district headquarters. Dis be about 18.5 kilometres (11 mi) northwest of de city of Wa, de capital of Ghana ein Upper West Region. Kaleo dey locate approximately 714 kilometres (444 mi) northwest of Accra de capital den largest city of Ghana. Overview
[edit | edit source]De power station get a generation capacity of 13 MW insyd de first phase. De second phase plus new generation capacity of 15 MW construction wey start insyd 2022 wey na dem commercially commission am insyd 2023. Dis bring generation capacity at Kaleo to a total of 28 MW.[2]
Dem dey evacuate de power via a 34.5kV high voltage transmission line to a GRIDCo substation insyd Wa, about 15 kilometres (9 mi) away, wer na de electricity be fed into de national grid.[1] Dis power station, togeda plus Lawra Solar Power Station, plus capacity of 4 MW dem intend to supply stable renewable power to de city of Wa den de surrounding metropolis.[1][3]
Developers

At de same time, VRA develop de 4 MW Lawra Solar Power Station, on 6.13 hectares (15.1 acres) insyd de town of Lawra.[1][3] Lawra dey locate about 71 kilometres (44 mi) northwest of Kaleo, close to de border plus Burkina Faso.
Construction den funding
[edit | edit source]De construction costs give Kaleo Solar Farm (13 MW) den Lawra Solar Farm (4 MW) na dem report e be approximately US$25 million (€20.2 million), plus loan support from de German Development Bank (KfW).[1] Dem dey expect VRA to borrow anoda €15 million from KfW to add anoda 15 MW insyd de second phase at Kaleo.[3][4]
