Karenge Drinking Water Supply System
Karenge Drinking Water Supply System (KDWSS), wey dem dey call am Karenge Water Supply System too, be water intake, water treatment, den water distribution system for Rwanda. De system dey supply water give some parts of de capital city, Kigali, plus de neighboring Rwamagana District.[1]
Location

Overview
[edit | edit source]Dem establish KDWSS for 1975 plus processing capacity of 3,840 cubic metres (135,608 cu ft) every day. For 1985, dem increase de capacity go 7,200 cubic metres (254,266 cu ft) every day. For 2008, de daily output increase reach 12,000 cubic metres (423,776 cu ft). As of October 2020, de system dey produce 15,000 cubic metres (529,720 cu ft) clean drinking water every day. Out of dat amount, 12,000 cubic metres (423,776 cu ft) (80 percent) dey go through pipeline enter Kigali, while 3,000 cubic metres (105,944 cu ft) (20 percent) dem dey distribute inside Rwamagana District.[2]
Expansion
[edit | edit source]For 2020, Rwanda government, through ein subsidiary Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC Limited), decide say dem go increase de processing capacity of dis plant go 48,000 cubic metres (1,695,104 cu ft) every day.[1][2] De expansion work include:[1]
- Upgrade de raw water source
- Build new raw water intake pumps
- Upgrade de raw water intake pipes
- Move de intake pumping station go new location
- Improve de capacity of de motors den pumps
- Build new drinking water storage tanks
- Expand de drinking water transport den distribution network by laying 33 kilometres (21 mi) of new distribution pipes.[1]

Other considerations
