Kelebone Albert Maope (wey dem born am for 1945) be politician from Lesotho. He serve insyd de Basutoland Congress Party (BCP) den Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) govments during de 1990s before he lef LCD for 2001 go start ein own party, wey be de Lesotho People's Congress (LPC).

Political career

As member for de BCP, Maope serve as Attorney General den Minister of Justice under de military regime wey rule Lesotho from 1986 go 1993.[1] He be Minister of Justice sana for de BCP govment wey take office for 1993.[2] For April 14, 1994, soldiers kidnap am small time plus three oda ministers; one fifth minister, Deputy Prime Minister Selometsi Baholo, die insyd dis same incident.[3]

Maope serve as Minister of Justice till dem appoint am Minister of Foreign Affairs insyd cabinet reshuffle for July 20, 1995. For February 21, 1998, dem elect am Deputy Leader for de new ruling party, de LCD, wey dem form for 1997. E hold dis position till June 1998, wey dem appoint am Deputy Prime Minister plus Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. For July 22, 1999, e come turn Minister of Finance and Development Planning, but still remain Deputy Prime Minister.[4]

Insyd early 2001, Maope win ein position again as Deputy Leader for de LCD, nobody challenge am. For July 2001, dem move am from Minister of Finance position go Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, but e still remain Deputy Prime Minister.[5]

Insyd September 2001, tension insyd de LCD show for one statement wey Maope talk, wey be member for de party ein Lesiba faction, say de govment dey do oppressive. Foreign Minister Tom Thabane come insult Maope for public. For September 28, Maope resign from de govment,[6] den e form new party wey dem call Lesotho People's Congress (LPC), wey dem register for October 8. De LPC, wey Maope be ein leader, win 27 members of parliament through defection from de LCD.[7]

Insyd de May 2002 parliamentary election, Maope win seat for de Seqonoka constituency; e be de only LPC candidate wey win constituency seat, but de party still gain four more seats through proportional representation.[8]
