Aaron Eugene Kofi Asante Ofori-Atta (12 December 1912 – July 1978) na Ghanaian teacher, lawyer den politician wey serve as de fourth Speaker of Parliament for Ghana.[1]
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]He born on 12 December 1912 insyd Kyebi, Akyem Abuakwa, insyd de Ofori-Atta royal family. After he go Presbyterian elementary school, he enter Mfantsipim School for 1925 but lef am for 1928 to join Achimota College wey he finish ein secondary education for 1933. He serve for different positions for Abuakwa State College den dem make am Vice Principal den later Principal from 1944 to 1947. For 1947 inside, he lef go Ireland go enter Trinity College Dublin where he get ein B.A degree for law plus diploma for public administration.[1]
Career
[edit | edit source]Ofori-Atta be Member of Parliament for Abuakwa Central den Begoro Constituencies. He first enter parliament for 1954 wey dem appoint am Minister for Communication from 1954 to 1956. He beat ein own relative, J. B. Danquah, wey be member of Ghana Congress Party den one of de founding members of de United Gold Coast Convention, take win de Akim Abuakwa Central seat. He be Minister for Local Government under Kwame Nkrumah ein Convention People's Party (CPP) government insyd Ghana ein first government.[2] He too serve as Minister for Justice for de same government.[3]
Dem later appoint am as Speaker of Parliament on 10 June 1965 insyd de First Republic of Ghana.[4] He remain speaker till de time wey de National Liberation Council suspend parliament after dem do coup d'état wey collapse de First Republic. Ofori-Atta be uncle to Nana Akufo-Addo, wey be de current President of Ghana.[3]
Death
[edit | edit source]Ofori-Atta die at de 37 Military Hospital insyd July 1978 insyd Accra.[5]
