De Mampruli language be a Gur language wey dem dey speak insyd northern Ghana, Northern Togo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast den Mali by de Mamprusi people. E be partially mutually intelligible plus Dagbani. Dem dey speak de Mamprusi language insyd a broad belt across de northern parts of de Northern Region of Ghana, wey dey stretch west to east from Yizeesi to Nakpanduri wey e centre on de towns of Gambaga, Nalerigu den Walewale.

De language dey belong to de Gur family wich be part of de Niger–Congo language family, wich dey cover chaw of Sub-Saharan Africa (Bendor-Samuel 1989). Within Gur e dey belong to de Western Oti–Volta subgroup, den particularly ein southeastern cluster of six to eight languages (Naden 1988, 1989). E closely related den very similar languages dem dey speak nearby be Dagbani, Nanun, Kamara den Hanga insyd de Northern Region, den Kusaal, Nabit den Talni insyd de Upper East Region. Not quite so closely related be Farefare, Waali, Dagaari, Birifor den Safalaba insyd de Upper East den Upper West Regions den southwest of de Northern Region.
