Virginia Mats'eliso Moshabesha (wey die for 2000) be one Mosotho politician. She be one of de first group of women wey dem elect go National Assembly of Lesotho for 1993.

Biography

Moshabesha get ein education for South Africa, where she train as nurse for Baragwanath den MacCord hospitals. There she earn certificate for general nursing den diploma for midwifery.[1] For early 1970s, she go Institute of Public Health for Calcutta to learn public health nursing, den go University of California, Santa Cruz, where she train as family planning practitioner.[1] She work as nursing sister den coordinator for Lesotho Red Cross. Before she enter politics, she be public health nurse for Lesotho Highlands Water Project.[1]

Moshabesha be Basutoland Congress Party (BCP) candidate for Matala insyd 1993 general elections, den she be one of three women wey dem elect, make dem de first female members of National Assembly.[2] She become government ein chief whip.[3] Before 1998 elections, BCP central branch nominate her as potential candidate for Mafeteng, wey Minister of Education Lesao Lehohla dey hold. Even though constituency branch meeting choose Lehohla as candidate, de party try talk say de election no dey constitutional. De matter reach High Court top, wey finally rule for Lehohla ein side.[4] Moshabesha still remain member for de party ein central committee until she die for Queen Elizabeth II hospital for Maseru inside 2000.[5]
