Ministry of Energy and Petroleum dey in charge make energy and petroleum services reach all parts of Ghana economy, make e dey steady, enough and friendly to environment.[1][2]
Functions of de Ministry
[edit | edit source]De ministry ein work be to improve electricity distribution all over Ghana, especially rural areas. Dem sanso wan make private sector join for energy projects den make future energy supply sure.[1][3]
1.Regulation & Oversight
Oversees agencies such as:
- Energy Commission
- Petroleum Commission
- Volta River Authority (VRA)
- Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)
- Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
3. Energy Planning: Dem dey plan den manage electricity, renewable energy plus petroleum projects.
4. Promoting Renewable Energy: Dem dey carry out Renewable Energy Act, 2011 (Act 832)
5. Oil & Gas Development: Dem dey make sure petroleum resources dey explore, produce and use well.
6. Energy Security: Dem dey spread reliable and cheap energy go all corners of Ghana.
Sector minister
[edit | edit source]De Energy and Petroleum Minister be de head of de ministry wey dey answer straight to Ghana President. Parliament dey approve de Energy Minister after President appoint am. De Ministry of Energy & Petroleum minister be John Abdulai wey follow Herbert Krapa for de position under President Nana Akufo Addo. Before dat, Matthew Opoku Prempeh hold de Energy post til July 2024 wen he decide he go run as Dr. Bawumia vice-presidential mate.[3][4]
Achievements
[edit | edit source]De ministry add more towns den communities to national grid plus improve light supply quality. For 2002, Tema Oil Refinery fix residual fuel catalytic cracker for Tema.[5]
Dem do am make dem fit recover more refined products from fuel oil wey before dey waste. For 2003, dem finish den start 161KV transmission line to carry light from Prestea go Obuasi.[5] De ministry push policies to deregulate petroleum sector for Ghana. Under Rural Kerosene Distribution Program, di ministry pay make dem build and share 700 kerosene tanks give all 110 districts.
De ministry share TVs wey e fix solar panels for 160 JHS across all 10 regions so say rural school kids fit watch di weekly President Special Initiative on Distance Learning.[5] Dem do am make schools wey no get light fit still teach den learn.
