Political career
[edit | edit source]Before de 2012 general election, de ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) split because Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili no wan give up power.[1] Mosisili come form new party wey ein name be Democratic Congress. LCD ein Secretary-General Mothetjoa Metsing come take over lead for de LCD.[2] Tom Thabane too dey lead anoda group wey break away for 2006, wey be All Basotho Convention (ABC).[3] LCD ein Metsing talk say ein no go join any national unity government.[4] In dat same way, ABC too talk say dem no go work plus LCD.[5] But after de election, de two parties, plus Basotho National Party, all join form coalition government.
Attempted coup d'état
[edit | edit source]After political tension rise den dem suspend parliament because of de wahala wey come from changing de head of de army from Lieutenant General Kennedy Tlali Kamoli go Lieutenant General Maaparankoe Mahao, some alleged attempted coup d'état make Thabane run comot de country. Later, ein come back under South African den Namibian police protection, wey dem dey guard am every time. Under de SADC demma mediation, wey South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa lead, dem call for early election. Lesotho ein King Letsie III come fix February 28, 2015, as de election date. Thabane get support from de national police [citation needed], but ein deputy Metsing get support from de army [citation needed], wey no gree accept de new army head.
Insyd June 5, 2017, after ein lose for de recent National elections, Mr. Metsing talk say, “De LDF go need make dem ‘protect’ dem from Prime Minister-elect Thomas Thabane wey yesterday make agreement plus three other parties to form government.” De former deputy premier talk say de army need “protection” because of de role dem play for support de outgoing government. Dem accuse Mr Metsing say ein dey work hand-in-hand plus de LDF for ein political fights, even though he plus de military deny de accusations strong. ABC ein leader den former premier Thomas Thabane accuse Mr Metsing say ein help plan LDF raid for three main Maseru police stations on de morning of 30 August 2014, wey de former describe as coup attempt. De raid kill one police officer den start plenty bad events wey make Dr Thabane ein coalition government collapse, wey force international community to step inside to stop total breakdown of rule of law for Lesotho.
