Mzwanele Nyhontso (wey dem born am 8 September 1973) be South African politician wey be president for Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, plus member for National Assembly of South Africa. From July 2024, he dey serve as Minister for Land Reform plus Rural Development insyd de cabinet of de country ein Government of National Unity.[1]

PAC leadership den parliamentary career

Insyd December 2018, Nyhontso dem elect am as leader for Pan Africanist Congress of Azania. But ein leadership no dey smooth, as e dey face plenty internal wahala plus leadership challenges from different factions insyd de party. Ein leadership dey under dispute by Narius Moloto, wey too dem elect am as PAC leader for anoda elective congress wey happun earlier dat same 2018.[2]

Insyd May 2019, Nyhontso get elect go de National Assembly as de only MP for PAC. Then for June 2019, he join de Joint Standing Committee on Defence, de Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Technology, de Portfolio Committee on Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, de Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy, plus de Disciplinary Committee.[3]

Dem re-elect Nyhontso as PAC leader insyd September 2019, but anoda faction too re-elect Moloto as leader insyd August 2019.[4] Even though de Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) officially recognise Nyhontso as de legitimate leader of de PAC, Moloto plus ein faction still dey dispute am.[5]

Insyd November 2020, Speaker Thandi Modise suspend Nyhontso ein parliamentary membership after de Supreme Court of Appeal talk say de 2019 decision by Moloto ein faction to expel am fit only get set aside by proper court ruling. Nyhontso come go Western Cape High Court, wey then order say make dem reinstate am as Member of Parliament for de interim on 3 December 2020, while dem still dey wait for final court decision on ein removal by ein party. Then insyd February 2021, de High Court dismiss application wey Moloto ein faction file to appeal de interim ruling wey reinstate Nyhontso as de PAC ein only MP, plus dem add say Moloto ein group go pay de legal costs. But insyd May 2021, court set aside Nyhontso ein application to reinstate am as MP, wey make am go seek appeal against dat ruling.[6]

Insyd 23 June 2021, Nyhontso lose ein parliamentary membership again. Dem swear Bennet Joko in to replace am. But later for 23 August 2021, de North Gauteng High Court officially recognise Nyhontso as de legitimate leader of de PAC. Dis judgement come based on technical grounds, sake of say Moloto ein notice of appeal from earlier ruling no reach de court ein registrar. So de court declare Moloto ein August 2019 election as invalid. Dis confirmation make Nyhontso fit return to ein seat for de National Assembly, wey dem swear am in back on 2 September 2021 to replace Joko.

Insyd 2024, Nyhontso come be de only elected MP for PAC again. After de ANC lose dem majority for parliament, he join de Government of National Unity as Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development.[7]

Minister insyd GNU

Insyd 19 June 2024, PAC announce say dem go join de Government of National Unity (GNU) after de 2024 South African general election wey happun on 29 May 2024 to choose new National Assembly. Dis election make ANC party lose ein majority for parliament, wey lead to talks to form GNU through big coalition. ANC plus Democratic Alliance lead de discussions.

Then on 30 June 2024, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa confirm say PAC don sign de GNU Statement of Intent, den announce say Nyhontso go be de Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development.[8][9]

Insyd 3 July 2024, Nyhontso take oath as minister insyd President Cyril Ramaphosa ein third cabinet.
