Naledi Nokukhanya Chirwa-Mpungose (born 22 July 1993) be South African politician den former student activist from Gauteng. She dey represent Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) insyd de National Assembly. She be former member of de National Assembly from May 2019 till June 2024. She serve small time for de National Council of Provinces before dem redeploy am go de National Assembly make she replace Mbuyiseni Ndlozi. She come popular through ein involvement for de #FeesMustFall student protests for University of Pretoria between 2015 den 2016.
Early life den education
[edit | edit source]Dem born Chirwa on 22 July 1993 for Vosloorus, East Rand, insyd Gauteng. Ein grandmother raise am for Mamelodi, Pretoria. For 2009, wey she be 15 years, she serve as deputy president for Tshwane North College (TNC) Further Education & Training (FET), wey now be TNC TVET.[1]
Chirwa get Bachelor of Arts plus Honours degree for Drama den Film Studies from University of Pretoria. As of 2019, she dey do ein Master of Arts for Theatre den Performance for University of the Witwatersrand.[2]
Student activism
[edit | edit source]She join Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) insyd 2015 den she become member of de party ein Student Command for University of Pretoria. She get appoint as de command ein communications officer. For August 2016, during former president Jacob Zuma ein speech for IEC election centre afta de 2016 municipal elections, Chirwa plus three other student activists disrupt ein speech while dem hold signs wey write "Khanga", "Remember Khwezi", "I am 1 in 3" den "10 yrs later", wey be reference to Zuma ein rape trial for de mid-2000s.[3][4]
Sana insyd 2016, Chirwa take part for student protests wey relate to de #FeesMustFall movement. Dem arrest am later den she get suspend from campus as part of ein bail conditions. For 2017, she be one of de Mail & Guardian demma 200 Young South Africans.[5]
Parliamentary career

[edit | edit source]Insyd de May 2019 general election, she win seat for de National Assembly of South Africa den she become EFF ein youngest Member of Parliament. She take ein oath plus other student activists like Peter Keetse, Nompendulo Mkhatshwa den Vuyani Pambo. She be member of Parliament ein Portfolio Committee on Health.[6]
On 25 June 2019, she deliver ein maiden speech during de State of de Nation Address debate. She get force make she withdraw one comment wey talk say government dey complicit for de murders of #FeesMustFall activists. For January 2022, she trend for Twitter sake of say she call President Cyril Ramaphosa "toothless" den "weak little boy".[7]
From around 2020, Chirwa face social media attacks from anonymous users wey claim, without any proof, say she be Malawian national den say ein family fraudulently take South African citizenship. For January 2022, she reply de allegations by tweeting: “You can lie to yourselves about my nationality until you turn green in the buttocks. It will not make your lies the truth and neither will it ever silence me. I didn't buy my voice. I'm not renting it either. Rest assured, I will always speak and there's nothing you can do about it.”[8]
Insyd March 2024, Chirwa no dey present for parliamentary vote sake of she dey take care of ein pikin wey no well. EFF fine am den instruct am make she apologise. Right afta dat, EFF release ein list of candidates for de upcoming general election, wey put Chirwa ein name for last position. EFF leader Julius Malema talk say ein demotion be result of democratic party process.[9]
National Council of Provinces: June 2024–January 2025
[edit | edit source]Insyd de May 2024 general election, Chirwa win seat make she represent EFF insyd de Gauteng delegation go de National Council of Provinces, wey be de upper house of de South African Parliament. She take ein oath for de seat on 15 June 2024.[10]
Personal life
[edit | edit source]Chirwa marry since October 2022. She get two kiddies, one wey born insyd 2021 den de other one born insyd 2023.[11]
