Mogamad Nazier Paulsen be South African politician wey currently dey serve as Member of de National Assembly for de Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF). Before e go parliament, e serve as Member for de Western Cape Provincial Parliament.[1]

Early life den career

Nazier Paulsen plus ein family dem bin dey part of de anti-apartheid movement before. Paulsen be member of de United Democratic Front. E get BCom Honours degree plus Postgraduate Diploma for Distributed Systems from University of Cape Town. Before, e be Information and Technology lecturer for Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Paulsen too serve as chairperson for de Mitchells Plain Community Development Corporation plus chairperson for de South African Progressive Civic Organisation (SAPCO).[2]

Paulsen join Economic Freedom Fighters for 2013. Dem make am de party ein Western Cape Premier candidate for de 2014 general elections. EFF win one seat for Western Cape Provincial Parliament, den Paulsen take dat seat on 21 May 2014.[3][4]

Insyd May 2015, EFF move am go National Assembly of South Africa. Bernard Joseph take over as EFF ein only representative for de Provincial Parliament. For May 2019, Paulsen win ein second term as Member of Parliament.[5][6]

But insyd de 2024 general election, Paulsen no rank high enough for de EFF national list, so e no return go National Assembly.[7][8]

Incidents

Wen Paulsen assume ein position as Member for Western Cape Provincial Parliament, dem give am one laptop. But wen e resign insyd May 2015, e first no gree return de laptop. De Provincial Parliament report de matter to police, den dem charge am for theft. Dis charge later dey withdraw for July 2019.

On 6 November 2018, Paulsen get clash plus Agang MP, Andries Tlouamma. As result, President Cyril Ramaphosa talk sey make MPs dey practice non-racialism wen dem dey relate plus each other. Parliament Disciplinary Committee take over de case after dem see de video evidence.

Then on 15 August 2019, Paulsen appear for court sake of one alleged assault matter. Dem talk sey e beat one man wey park ein car outside ein ex-wife ein house for early August. Dem schedule ein next court date for September.

Later again, on 19 November 2019, dem pursue Paulsen comot for National Assembly after e no gree take back ein statement sey Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan dey appoint SOE staff based on race.

For one National Assembly sitting wey happen for March 2021, Paulsen tell DA MP Phumzile van Damme make she go back to Eswatini, den tell DA Chief Whip, Natasha Mazzone, make she go back to Italy. As de tension rise, Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli order Paulsen make e comot for de House. As Paulsen dey go, Van Damme wave give am, den Tsenoli warn her make she no provoke. Van Damme then claim sey Paulsen threaten to “beat her up” den e begin argue plus EFF MPs. After dat, Tsenoli order her too make she leave, den two DA male MPs — Kevin Mileham den Chris Hunsinger — escort her. Paulsen deny sey e threaten am. On 28 July 2021, de National Assembly ein Power and Privileges Committee decide sey dem go investigate de matter, den Paulsen go face disciplinary hearing for ein behaviour. Dem allege sey e threaten to beat two more DA MPs during de same March sitting.

Then insyd January 2023, de Cape Youth Front (CYF) file case against Paulsen after e talk for X (wey dem formerly call Twitter) sey people wey dey support Cape Independence must face execution. As response to one pro-Cape Independence account, Paulsen talk sey, “we should start finding the IP addresses of these accounts and start locating the people behind it”. CYF then file formal charges against am based on incitement to commit violence under Section 17 of de Riotous Assembly Act [No. 17 of 1956].
