Necrotizing fasciitis (NF), dem sanso know as flesh-eating disease, be an infection wey dey kill de body ein soft tissue.[1] E be a serious disease wey dey begin den dey spread quickly.[1] Symptoms dey include red anaa purple anaa black skin, swelling, severe pain, fever, den vomiting.[1] De most commonly affected areas be de limbs den perineum.[2]
Bacterial infection be by far de most common cause of necrotizing fasciitis. Despite e be called a "flesh-eating disease", bacteria no dey chop human tissue. Rather, dem dey release toxins wey dey cause tissue death. Typically, de infection dey enter de body thru a break insyd de skin such as a cut anaa burn.[1] Risk factors dey include recent trauma anaa surgery den a weakened immune system secof diabetes anaa cancer, obesity, alcoholism, intravenous drug use, den peripheral artery disease.[1][2] E no dey usually spread between people.[1] De disease be classified into four types, wey dey depend on de infecting organisms.[3] Medical imaging often be helpful to confirm de diagnosis.[3]
Necrotizing fasciitis be treated plus surgery to remove de infected tissue, den antibiotics.[1][4] E be considered a surgical emergency. Delays insyd surgery be associated plus a much higher risk of death.[3] Despite high-quality treatment, de risk of death dey remain between 25 den 35%.[4]
