Nelson Yawo Avega Agbesi (1939–2016) be one Ghanaian barrister den politician.

Early life den education

Dem born Nelson Agbesi on 16 November 1939 for Liati Wote insyd de den Trans-Volta Togoland wey later turn Gold Coast but now dey Volta Region of Ghana. Between 1956 plus 1961, Nelson take ein secondary education for Mawuli School wey he take obtain GCE Ordinary level plus Advanced level. He enter University of Ghana wey he go read law. He complete ein studies for 1964, graduate plus Bachelor of Arts Honours in Law. He then continue go Ghana Law School wey he complete for 1966. Dem call am to de Bar for October 1966.[1]

Law career

Agbesi ein first work be as junior legal practitioner plus Lynes Quarshie Idun and partners between 1966 to 1969. He come turn senior partner for Ameyi Chambers from 1969 until 1979 wey he turn Member of Parliament. He rejoin Ameyi Chambers for November 1982. On 15 March 1989, he establish Afadzato Chambers for Accra.[1]

Politics

Agbesi be member of de People's National Party. He contest de 1979 Ghanaian general election wey he win de East Dayi seat. He serve as Member of Parliament from 24 September 1979 till parliament dissolve plus dem suspend de constitution on 31 December 1981.

President Hilla Limann appoint Agbesi as Minister of State. First, he serve as Volta Regional Minister for December 1979.[2] He hold dis position until December 1980 wey dem reshuffle de cabinet wey he replace E. K. Andah as Minister for Food and Agriculture. He hold dis role till de 1981 Ghanaian coup d'état wey overthrow de Limann government plus bring Jerry Rawlings ein Provisional National Defence Council. After de coup, dem detain Agbesi for Nsawam Prisons. But National Investigations Committee no make any bad findings against am so dem release am from custody.[1]

Oda activities

Agbesi be member of Lions Clubs International.[3] Dem make am District Governor[4] plus honour am plus de Melvin Jones Fellowship for ein good service. Tema Supreme Lions Club build de Lion Nelson Agbesi Solar Learning Shed for Yatsovukope Island wey dey insyd Volta Lake to honour am, make e help children get place to learn after school.[5] Agbesi play big role wey make Lions Club support build one Community Clinic for Liati Wote for 2004.[6]

Family

Agbesi ein parents be Patrick Kosi Avega wey be Mankrado Adzotsomor III of Liati Wote plus Philomena Akosuavi Masroh from Agu Akumawu insyd Togo. He marry Nayra Klu for 47 years till ein death. He get seven kiddies.[1] Dem bury am for mausoleum near ein house for Liati Wote insyd Volta Region.[1]
