Patience Faka Jonathan (née Iwari;[1] born 25 October 1957) be a Nigerian civil servant who serve as de First Lady of Nigeria from 2010 to 2015 and second lady of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010. She be de wife of former President den Vice President of Nigeria Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. She serve as a Permanent Secretary insyd Bayelsa State.[2]

She get her school certificate for 1976, den pass de West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) for 1980. For 1989, she collect National Certificate of Education (NCE) for Mathematics den Biology from Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Port Harcourt. After dat, she go University of Port Harcourt go study B.Ed for Biology den Psychology. University of Port Harcourt later award her honorary doctorate degree.[3][4]
Career
[edit | edit source]Patience start her work life as teacher for Stella Maris College, Port Harcourt den for Sports Institute, Isaka. Later, for 1997, she enter banking sector where she serve as marketing manager for Imiete Community Bank. After dat, she open de first community bank for Port Harcourt wey dem call Akpo Community Bank. She later go back teach small again before dem transfer her go Bayelsa State Ministry of Education. She work there until 29 May 1999, wen ein husband become deputy governor of de state. On 12 July 2012, dem appoint her as permanent secretary for Bayelsa State under Henry Seriake Dickson. But dis appointment raise eyebrows because she don dey on leave from civil service for over 13 years since her husband become deputy governor.[5][6] Critics talk say de promotion no get merit or recent performance to back am. Na dem allege say na her husband sponsor Henry Seriake Dickson for de governorship seat.[7]

For 2008, she collect the "Beyond The Tears" International Humanitarian Award for New York, USA, for her efforts insyd the global fight against HIV/AIDS. That same year, she win the African Goodwill Ambassador Award for Los Angeles, USA, den "Wind of Change" Award from the South/South Women's Organization.
Wen Goodluck Jonathan be governor from 2005 to 2007, Patience serve as First Lady of Bayelsa State. During dat time, she launch plenty charity den women empowerment programs. One of them na the A-Aruere Reachout Foundation (AARF), wey she create to help improve the condition den income level of Nigerian women plus youth. The foundation focus specially on helping children wey get heart wahala.
