Research paradigms and agenda

Based on the definition of health—"a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity"[16]—plus the principles wey dey inside the preamble of the World Health Organization constitution, the Lancet Commission report explain say planetary health mean "the achievement of the highest attainable standard of health, wellbeing, and equity worldwide through wise attention to the human systems—political, economic, and social—weh dey shape humanity future, plus the Earth's natural systems wey set the safe environmental limits inside which humanity fit survive and prosper."[3]

The report also set the main principles wey dey guide the planetary health idea. According to one 2024 update, humanity don already cross six of the planetary boundaries: climate change, biosphere integrity, biogeochemical flows, land-system change, freshwater use, and novel entities.[19] The seventh boundary, ocean acidification, too dey move close to its limit.

Annual meeting
