Pleurisy, dem sanso know as pleuritis, be inflammation of de membranes wey dey surround de lungs den line de chest cavity (pleurae).[1] Dis fi result in a sharp chest pain while breathing.[1] Occasionally de pain fi be a constant dull ache.[2] Oda symptoms fi include shortness of breath, cough, fever, den weight loss, dey depend on de underlying cause.[2]

Pleurisy fi be caused by a variety of conditions, wey dey include viral anaa bacterial infections, autoimmune disorders, den pulmonary embolism. De most common cause be a viral infection.[3] Oda causes dey include bacterial infection, pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, autoimmune disorders, lung cancer, dey follow heart surgery, pancreatitis den asbestosis.[3] Occasionally de cause remain unknown.[3] De underlying mechanism dey involve de rubbing togeda of de pleurae instead of smooth gliding.[1] Oda conditions wey fi produce similar symptoms dey include pericarditis, heart attack, cholecystitis, pulmonary embolism, den pneumothorax.[4] Diagnostic testing fi include a chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG), den blood tests.[4][5]
