Pontso S. M. Sekatle (wey dem born 26 May 1957) be politician plus academic for Lesotho. Sekatle lecture for National University of Lesotho from 1984 go 2001.[1] For June 2001, dem appoint am go de Senate of Lesotho,[2] den on July 6, 2001 she become Minister of Health and Social Welfare.[3] She be member of de Qacha's Nek constituency for de third time after she win for de 2012 elections, den dem appoint her as Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs.

Dr. Sekatle, for her role as Minister of Local Government, carry out de local elections for 2005, wey be de first of ein kind for Lesotho and wey dem first plan since 1968.

Early life

Dem born Sekatle on 26 May 1957 insyd Quthing District of Lesotho. She finish ein primary education insyd Quthing Primary, secondary insyd Mopeli Secondary School, plus she get ein Cambridge School Certificate for Masitise High School.[4] Sekatle start ein career as lecturer insyd National University of Lesotho den later become Head of de Department of Political den Administrative Studies. Insyd June 2001, dem appoint ein as member of de Upper House of de Representatives. Her husband, Semano Sekatle, too be member of de government, wey currently he dey serve as Minister of Public Service.[5]

Insyd de May 2002 parliamentary election, wey be ein first election, she stand as de ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) ein candidate for Qacha's Nek constituency, wey Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili hold before (but dis time he contest for Tsoelike constituency), den she win 72.4% of de vote. After de election, for June 2002, dem move her from de position of Minister of Health go Minister of Local Government. After de February 2007 parliamentary election, she still remain for de same position insyd de March 2007 government. She be member of de Qacha's Nek constituency for de third time after she win de 2012 elections, den dem appoint ein as Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs. Sekatle join de new party wey Pakalitha Mosisili dey lead, Democratic Congress, when dem form am for 2012. For December 2018, Semano Sekatle, Pontso ein husband plus fellow Democratic Congress legislator, move go Tom Thabane ein ruling All Basotho Convention. Pontso too shortly resign from ein post as Democratic Congress ein Women League president. Speculation say Pontso go soon follow suit den move go All Basotho Convention end for April 2019, when dem officially present ein to de ABC masses for one of Thabane ein rallies for Peka, Leribe, as one of de All Basotho Convention ein latest catches.[6]

Dr. Sekatle be appointed as Minister of Local Government plus aim to carry out de decentralization drive of de Lesotho government wey dem plan since 1968. Dem dey consider say she drive de local elections for 2005, wey be de first of ein kind for Lesotho. Dr. Sekatle too head different executive committees like Lesotho Congress for Democracy Women’s League (DCWL) plus Democratic Congress League (DCL). She start as Secretary General for 2008 den later become President of both de committees, wey she dey head as of 2016. She be Deputy President for African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM), Deputy President for Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CWLG), Director of UNESCO Lesotho plus Director of Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC). She publish different works insyd de field of public administration, governance den institution building.[7]
