Power Distribution Services Ghana (PDS Ghana Limited),[1] be one company wey dey share light (electricity) for Ghana. Demma work cover almost thirty percent of de whole country land.[2] Before, na e be public company wey dey under Ministry of Energy of Ghana.[3] E join hands plus Northern Electricity Distribution Company, wey dem supply all de light wey Ghana people dey need plus some West African countries.[4] Na PDS take over Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) dat be 1 March 2019.[5][6]
De company start plenty times of light off (load shedding) wey increase for recent times. E come turn popular for street insyd wey people start dey call am “dumsor. Later later, dem return de ownership go back give ECG.[7]
The Controversy
De Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited takeover be one big wahala deal. Government of Ghana dash PDS 25-year chance (concession) make dem manage Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). Dem sign de deal for March 2019, buh by July 2019 government suspend am secof fraud allegations. Later, for October 2019, government cancel de deal totally.[8]
On 17th June 2025, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut off Weija treatment plant wey Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) dey run from de national light grid secof dem dey owe — GH¢999.6 million [9][10]
History
[edit | edit source]De Energy Commission wey Parliament create under Energy Commission Act of 1997 (Act 541) dey play key role for Ghana ein energy matter insyd. Demma main work be say dem go regulate things well, manage am proper, develop am fine-fine, plus make sure say Ghana go use all ein energy resources in de best way. As dem dey do all dis, Energy Commission dey help make Ghana ein energy sector grow steady-steady, work sharp, den sanso match both national plans den international best way of doing things.[11]
Energy Commission be de main regulator for Ghana ein energy sector, wey dem dey advise government on energy matter. Demma main focus be say make light (electricity) reach Ghana people in clean business way, plus dem dey watch over rural electrification projects wey government dey do.[12]
