Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES), dem sanso refer to as functional seizures anaa dissociative seizures,[1][2] be episodes wey dey resemble epileptic seizures buh dem no be caused by abnormal electrical activity insyd de brain.[3][4] Instead, dem be classified as a type of functional neurological disorder (FND), insyd wich symptoms fi arise from changes in brain function rada dan structural disease anaa epilepsy. During a PNES episode, seizure-like behavior dey occur insyd de absence of epileptiform activity on electroencephalogram (EEG).[5]

PNES fi be difficult to distinguish from epileptic seizures based on clinical observation alone. Diagnosis typically be confirmed thru video-EEG monitoring, wich dey record both de clinical event den de absence of epileptiform activity. Dese episodes be involuntary den genuine, no be consciously produced. Management primarily dey involve psychological treatment, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Outcomes dey vary wey fi be influenced by factors such as early diagnosis, therapeutic engagement, den coexisting psychiatric conditions.[1][6]
