Makgabo Reginah Mhaule (born 1 December 1961) be a South African politician from Mpumalanga who currently serve as Deputy Minister of Basic Education. She represent de African National Congress (ANC) insyd de National Assembly since 2018.
Mhaule be a teacher by profession den enter government as a local councillor insyd Mbombela Local Municipality, where she be Executive Mayor from 2003 to 2006. After dat, she serve insyd de Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2018. Throughout dat time, she be Mpumalanga ein Member of de Executive Council for Education insyd de provincial government of Premier David Mabuza.
She be an elected member of de ANC National Executive Committee since December 2017, den she join de National Assembly insyd February 2018, when President Cyril Ramaphosa appoint ein as Deputy Minister of International Relations den Cooperation. She remain insyd dat portfolio until after de 2019 general election, when she be appointed to ein current office.
Education den early career

Later, after apartheid end, she complete a Bachelor of Arts at de University of South Africa insyd 1996, a Bachelor of Education Honours at de University of Potchefstroom insyd 2002, den a Master's insyd public administration at de University of Pretoria insyd 2012.[3] Insyd May 2019, she complete a doctorate insyd public administration at de University of Fort Hare, plus a dissertation about education outcomes insyd KwaMhlanga.[4]
She begin ein career as a primary school teacher insyd de Eastern Transvaal insyd 1980, though she later move to a secondary school, Sibukosetfu Secondary insyd Hazyview, where she rise to become deputy principal den acting principal. During ein 20 years as a teacher, she sanso be politically active; she be de inaugural chairperson of de local Hazyview branch of de South African Democratic Teachers' Union when de union establish insyd 1990, den she sanso become a member of de African National Congress (ANC).[2]
Mbombela Local Municipality: 2000–2006
[edit | edit source]In the December 2000 local elections, Mhaule was elected to represent the ANC as a local councillor in Mbombela Local Municipality in the Eastern Transvaal, by then renamed as Mpumalanga Province. She also became speaker of the council. In July 2003, she was promoted when she was elected as mayor of Mbombela. She held that office for three years, departing the council entirely in 2006. Thereafter she worked as a senior manager in the provincial Department of Roads and Transport until 2009.[3]
Mpumalanga Executive Council: 2009–2018

[edit | edit source]On 26 February 2018, recently elected President Cyril Ramaphosa announce ein cabinet den name Mhaule as Deputy Minister of International Relations den Cooperation under Minister Lindiwe Sisulu. She be one of two deputy ministers insyd de portfolio, serve alongside Luwellyn Landers. In order to take up dis position insyd de national government, Mhaule resign from de Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature den swear insyd de National Assembly. James Masango, de provincial leader of de opposition Democratic Alliance, object to Mhaule ein promotion, claim dat both she den Mabuza – wey appoint as Ramaphosa ein Deputy President – "leave havoc insyd de departments they oversaw" insyd Mpumalanga.[7]
Basic Education: 2019–present
[edit | edit source]Insyd de May 2019 general election, Mhaule elect to a full term insyd de National Assembly, ranked 57th on de ANC ein national party list. After de election, Ramaphosa appoint ein as Deputy Minister of Basic Education under long-serving Minister Angie Motshekga. Insyd December 2022, at de ANC ein 55th National Conference, she narrowly re-elect to de ANC National Executive Committee, rank 78th of de 80 ordinary members elect.[8]
