Sanlé Sory (born 1943) be a Burkinabe photographer.

As a teenager, he photograph automobile accidents around Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkino-Faso, wich he go race to document for ein motorcycle top.[1] Insyd 1960 he found de Volta Photo Studio insyd Bobo-Dioulasso.[2][3] Dey follow dis he develop a reputation as a photographer of de Burkinabe club scene insyd de 1960s den 70s.[2] During dis time na he sanso organize bals poussières, anaa "dust balls", wer he go provide a sound system den musicians give concerts stages insyd de countryside. Sory go roam de bals plus ein camera, dey take photos for money.[4]

Insyd 2018 de Art Institute of Chicago present de exhibition Volta Photo: Starring Sanlé Sory and the People of Bobo-Dioulasso in the Small but Musically Mighty Country of Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso).[5] Steidl publish an accompanying catalogue, dem title Volta Photo.[6] Insyd 2021 de fashion designer Grace Wales Bonner release a line of clothing she title Volta Jazz wey be inspired by Sory ein photographs. De line include a film by de same name, create by Joshua Woods.[7][8]

Dem include Sory ein work insyd de collections of de Museum of Fine Arts Houston[9] de Museum of Modern Art, New York[10] den de Tang Teaching Museum for Skidmore College.[11]
