Mosie Anthony "Shakes" Cele (die on 25 July 2020) be South African politician wey represent de African National Congress (ANC) for de National Assembly from 2004 go 2009.
Anti-apartheid activism
[edit | edit source]Cele be member of de United Democratic Front insyd Natal Midlands, where he dey play strong role for setting up legal ANC structures after dem unban de party for 1990.[1][2] He be member of de first regional executive committee of ANC ein Natal Midlands branch, wey Harry Gwala be de chairman. For October 1992, he dey travel together plus Gwala ein deputy, Reggie Hadebe, when some people assassinate Hadebe outside Ixopo. Cele, Hadebe plus John Jeffery all dey return from peace talks plus Inkatha, den Cele get small injuries when dem ambush de car.[3][4]
Post-apartheid political career
[edit | edit source]Cele later become regional secretary, den regional chair for ANC ein Moses Mabhida branch for Pietermaritzburg. On 2 September 2005, he take ein oath enter ANC seat for de National Assembly, represent de KwaZulu-Natal constituency; he replace Ruth Bhengu wey resign. For de next general election wey happen for 2009, he no win immediately, but on 21 July 2010, he take ein oath again to fill anoda casual vacancy. Insyd 2014, he win re-election, wey dem rank am number five on ANC ein provincial party list for KwaZulu-Natal. During de legislative term wey follow, he serve as party whip for de Portfolio Committee on Economic Development.[5]
Insyd de 2019 general election, dem push am go 34th place on ANC ein provincial party list, den he no get re-election. He die on 25 July 2020 for Pietermaritzburg.[1]
