Socrate Safo be Ghanaian movie director, filmmaker, plus Director for Creative Arts for National Commission on Culture (NCC) insyd Ghana. E be one big man for Ghallywood insyd, plus e be head for Move Africa Productions.[1]
Career
[edit | edit source]Safo start ein movie career time wey e dey work as cleaner (janitor) for cinema house. Before den, e dey train be auto mechanic. Na during dat time he shoot ein 1992 film Ghost Tears, wey turn big commercial success.[2] Dat film sef open way give Ghana ghost-movie style.[3]
Safo serve as Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Film Producers Association of Ghana.[4] He show face big inside 2011 VICE documentary “The Sakawa Boys,” wey talk how Safo ein movies dey influence Sakawa culture for Ghana. Safo himself talk say from 1988 reach de time dem shoot de documentary, he do more than 100 movies.[5] Insyd 2015, Safo close down ein Movie Africa Studio sake of de dumsor problem.[6]
For June 2017, government appoint am as Director for Creative Arts for NCC.[7] Before dat sef, he dey work there as Executive Secretary.[8]
Insyd May 2020, Barbara Oteng Gyasi, wey be Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, appoint Safo as Chairman of de Film Classification Committee, under Ghana National Film Authority. De committee ein work be to regulate den promote Ghana film industry.[9][10] For 2021, Safo announce say he dey retire from filmmaking.[11]
