Specific phobia be an anxiety disorder, wey be characterized by an extreme, unreasonable, den irrational fear dem associate plus a specific object, situation, anaa concept wich dey pose little anaa no actual danger.[1][2] Specific phobia fi lead to avoidance of de object anaa situation, persistence of de fear, den significant distress anaa problems functioning dem associate plus de fear. A phobia fi be a fear of anything.
Although fears be common den normal, a phobia be an extreme type of fear wer dem dey take great lengths to avoid being exposed to de particular danger. Phobias be considered de most common psychiatric disorder, wey dey affect about 10% of de population insyd de US,[3] according to de Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), (among kiddies, 5%; among teens, 16%). About 75% of patients get more dan one specific phobia.

Females be twice as likely to be diagnosed dan males plus a specific phobia.[5]
