| Dis template no suppose be used inside citation templates like Citation Style 1 and Citation Style 2, because e get markup wey go spoil the COinS metadata wey dem create; see Wikipedia:COinS. |
Dis template dey use the decimal code for the apostrophe or single-quote character so the character no go get interpreted together with nearby italics ('') or bold (''') wiki markup, or make people mistake am for another quotation mark.
How to use am
[edit source]Dis template dey leave space after the single quotation mark/apostrophe, unlike the similar {{`}} (wey no get spacing), {{Space+single}} (also known as {{-'}}; wey put space before the single quote), and {{Apostrophe}} (also known as {{'}}; wey put smaller space before the apostrophe).
E no dey add any invalid space characters inside the meaning of the text, but e dey do all the spacing only visually using CSS.
Dem make dis template for use with templates wey provide double quotes when the quoted content end for the right side with apostrophe/single quote.
{{-'}} be for the left side, {{'}} be for italic text, and {{`}} be for non-italic text.
- Make you no use these templates inside the
|title=parameter of Citation Style 1 templates. If you do, e go spoil the COinS metadata wey the citation create.
The matching template for when you manually put double quotes around a single-quoted passage be {{' "}}.
Check also {{-'}} and {{" '}} for the left-side versions (parameter and manual, respectively).
Example
[edit source]"Critical Review of 'My Two Front Teeth{{'-}}"
go produce:
- "Critical Review of 'My Two Front Teeth'"
Compare am with:
- "Critical Review of 'My Two Front Teeth'"
wey come from:
"Critical Review of 'My Two Front Teeth'"
Notice the small visual spacing difference between these two:
- Teeth'"
- Teeth'"
