Template:-'
'
| Dis template no suppose be used inside citation templates like Citation Style 1 and Citation Style 2, because e get markup wey go spoil the COinS metadata wey dem create; see Wikipedia:COinS. |
How to use am
[edit source]Dis template, {{-'}} or Template:Space+single, dey use the decimal code for the apostrophe or single-quote character so the character no go get interpreted together with nearby italics ('') or bold (''') wiki markup, or make people mistake am for another quotation mark.
Dis template dey leave space before the single quotation mark/apostrophe, unlike similar templates like {{`}} (wey no get spacing), {{'-}} (wey put space after the single quote), and {{'}} (wey get smaller space before the apostrophe).
E no dey put any invalid space characters inside the text, but e dey create all the spacing only visually, using CSS.
Dem make dis template for use with templates wey provide double quotes when the quoted content start from the left side with an apostrophe/single quote.
{{'-}} be for the right-hand side, {{'}} be for italic text, and {{`}} be for non-italic text.
- Make you no use these templates inside the
|title=parameter of Citation Style 1 templates. If you do, e go spoil the COinS metadata wey the citation produce.
Example:
"{{-'}}My Two Front Teeth': A Critical Review"
go produce:
- "'My Two Front Teeth': A Critical Review"
Compare am with:
- "'My Two Front Teeth': A Critical Review"
wey come from:
"'My Two Front Teeth': A Critical Review"
Notice the small visual spacing difference between these two:
- "'My
- "'My
The matching template for when you manually put double quotes around a single-quoted passage be {{" '}}.
Check also {{'-}} and {{' "}} for the right-hand side versions (parameter and manual, respectively).
