Anthony Marais (28 August 1952 – 27 January 2019) be South African politician wey come from Free State. He represent de African National Congress (ANC) for de Free State Provincial Legislature from 2002 go reach 2006. Before dat, he be Delegate for de National Council of Provinces from 1994 go reach 2002. After he commot from government, he join de opposition party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for 2013.
Early life den activism
[edit | edit source]Na dem born Marais on 28 August 1952.[1] According to ein wifey, he join de ANC when he still be teenager den dem recruit am enter Umkhonto we Sizwe.[2] Later, he come chair de Free State branch of de South African National Civic Organisation.[2]
Political career
[edit | edit source]Insyd South Africa ein first post-apartheid elections for 1994, Marais win seat to represent de ANC insyd de Orange Free State caucus (wey later turn Free State caucus) for de Senate (wey later become de National Council of Provinces). He win second term again for de 1999 general election.[3]
Insyd 2002, Marais resign from de national Parliament make he take up ANC ein seat insyd de Free State Provincial Legislature. He win full term for de provincial legislature for 2004, but he resign halfway through de term for 2006.[2]
After he comot from legislative politics, for 2007, Marais start one printing business wey no go well plus ein wife; de company later close down. He join de EFF for 2013.[2]
Ein life matter
[edit | edit source]Marais dey retired by de time wey he die den he dey live for Heidedal plus ein wife, politician Paulnita Marais, wey he get six pikin with. He die on 27 January 2019.[4]
